Friday, 1/20/12, 7:30pm • Albert Simpson
Albert Simpson, from Gadsden, Al., performs mostly solo utilizing percussion instruments like the tambourine and the porchboard, which is an instrument that sounds like a kick drum. With the addition of the guitar and vocals you could close your eyes and think you were listing to a whole band. Simpson's folksy back porch flavor makes his music feel like an old friend. After performing for over twenty years, this artist is now known as one of the best solo acts on the scene. His southern fried folk funk flavor is intoxicating!

Friday, 1/20/12, 10:00pm • Penny Prophets with Kenny Roby
Penny Prophets are a Rock band. This genus, known for its screaming solos, rhythmic tightness, psychedelic freak-outs, and sexual suggestion was thought to be extinct. These majestic creatures dominated stadiums and auditoriums throughout the 1970's, but by the late 1980's had all but disappeared. Some blamed invasive species like the drum machine, some pointed to a punk asteroid from "f@#king outer space," others assumed the Devil had reneged on his side of the bargain. But in 2009, Penny Prophets appeared. You may be surprised how loud a dinosaur can roar. Kenny Roby established himself as one of the main songwriting forces behind the Americana/Roots Rock movement as a founding member of the band Six String Drag.
